Matteo took his Master's degree in Computer Engineering from Milan's Politecnico (Italy), at a time when he was also collaborating with the Mario Negri institute for pharmacological research. He obtained his PhD degree from Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon (Portugal), performing his work as a part of the Computer and Robot Vision laboratory (VisLab). He went on to work in the automotive industry (Continental Corporation in the UK, then Hyundai-Mobis in Germany) prior to joining IIT.

His early research focussed on 3D Visual Object Tracking, Pedestrian Detection and Re-Identification. At the moment his goal is to combine the rigour of Multiple-View Geometry with the power of Deep Learning.

MEMEX: MEMories and EXperiences for inclusive digital storytelling

The MEMEX project promotes social cohesion through collaborative, heritage-related tools that provide inclusive access to tangible and intangible Cultural Heritage and, at the same time, facilitate encounters, discussions and interactions between communities at risk of social exclusion. These tools will empower communities of people with the possibility of welding together their fragmented experiences and memories into compelling and geolocalised storylines using new personalised digital content linked to the pre-existent European Cultural Heritage. The tools of MEMEX will allow the communities to tell their stories and to claim their rights and equal participation in the European society. To this end, MEMEX will nurture actions that contribute to, rather than undermine, practices of recognition of differences by giving voice to individuals for promoting cultural diversity.
